The Philadelphia Eagles lost their fifth consecutive game on Monday night, falling 38-21 to the Dallas Cowboys. The defeat extends the franchise’s longest losing streak since 2016, leaving the team with a 2-5 record. Dallas improved to 3-4 and remains in contention for the NFC East title, while the New York Giants lead the division at 4-2-1.
Jalen Hurts is expected to miss the remainder of the season due to blood clots in his lungs. In his absence, rookie quarterback Tanner McKee started the game. He completed 23 of 35 passes for 211 yards, one touchdown, and one interception. The Eagles scored 14 of their 21 points in the third quarter, but could not sustain the lead against Dallas’s offense.
Dallas quarterback Dak Prescott threw for 212 yards and three touchdowns. He connected with CeeDee Lamb for two of those scores. Lamb caught a 16-yard pass in the corner of the end zone late in the third quarter to give the Cowboys a 28-21 lead. Prescott also threw a 21-yard touchdown to George Pickens in the second quarter. Running back Javonte Williams rushed for a career-high 155 yards and a touchdown, capping the scoring for the visitors.
Eagles running back Saquon Barkley returned from a hamstring injury that kept him out for more than two games. He finished with 62 yards on seven carries. Barkley scored the first touchdown of the game on an 8-yard run in the opening quarter. He visited the sideline medical tent during the contest, appearing to manage both his hamstring and back issues.
The Eagles’ only touchdown came in the third quarter when McKee connected with rookie Makai Lemon for a 4-yard score. The drive consumed nearly 10 minutes of game clock. Before that, the Eagles trailed 20-7. The Cowboys built their lead with field goals from Brandon Aubrey, including a 55-yarder. Aubrey also kicked a 24-yard field goal in the fourth quarter to extend the lead to 31-21.
Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie was inducted into the team’s Hall of Fame during halftime. He gave a brief speech flanked by Hall of Famers Brian Dawkins and Donovan McNabb. Lurie purchased the team in 1994, and the franchise has won two Super Bowls under his ownership. Coach Nick Sirianni remained the sole team representative addressing Hurts’ condition to the media.
The Eagles will travel to Washington for a Sunday night game against another struggling NFC East team. The Cowboys will host the Arizona Cardinals at home the following Sunday.
